Reopening Plan Update: Day Services

Monday - Jun. 29, 2020

JCDS day services at the Elmore Center has continued to take a cautious approach to reopening, and by June 29 we will be providing services to 17 people in Work Enrichment and six people in Life Enrichment. Throughout the month of July, we will resume services with several more people who live with their families or independently.

JCDS continues to work with our partners at the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services and Managed Care Organizations on what services are allowable and then with our clinical staff and Johnson County Health and Environment on how we should safely be providing supports.

Over the next month, we will be evaluating the status of the people day and residential services from JCDS and reviewing the local COVID-19 data trends. This information will determine the timing of the next phase, which will include some people receiving residential services from JCDS and affiliate providers.

As with the first phase, prior to setting a firm start date, transition meetings will be scheduled with each person and their circle of support to discuss individual risk factors and strategies to consider that will reduce health risks associated with the virus that could be a concern. In addition, meetings will include a discussion about the current status of the Work Enrichment and Life Enrichment programs and any changes that might impact individual services. We anticipate that the next phase of transition will begin by early August, unless the number of positive cases in our community increase to a level that would delay this process.

Although we are making progress with transitioning people back to their regular programs, JCDS still does not anticipate that day services at the Elmore Center will be operating at full capacity in the near future because of the continued risk COVID-19 poses to many people we support who are in a high-risk category.
