Live well today to live a better tomorrow. LiveWell Johnson County is committed to improving resident health by providing education on chronic disease prevention, empowering individuals to make informed choices about healthy eating and physical activity for long-term well-being.
LiveWell Johnson County, a program by the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment, focuses on preventing chronic diseases through healthy eating and physical activity. According to the 2021 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) survey, over 65% of Johnson County adults are overweight or obese, a major concern since obesity is linked to 4 of the top 5 leading causes of death - heart disease, stroke, diabetes and certain cancers.
Yet, only 1 in 3 adults meet weekly physical activity recommendations, despite its well-known benefits for preventing these diseases. Additionally, almost 40% of adults don't eat fruit daily, and nearly 19% skip daily vegetables, further increasing their chronic disease risk. LiveWell Johnson County encourages residents to move more, eat healthier and improve their overall well-being.
