Move More, Sit Less

Physical activity is vital for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases. In Johnson County, only 1 in 3 adults reports meeting the recommended amount of physical activity each week. The centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests that adults aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity weekly - just over 20 minutes a day. For added benefits, incorporating muscle-strengthening activities at least twice a week is also encouraged.

Engaging in regular physical activity offers numerous long-term health benefits, including lowering the risk of heart disease, certain cancers, type 2 diabetes and stroke. Beyond disease prevention, moving helps control weight, strengthens muscles, improves sleep quality and relives stress. The bottom line is simple: move more and sit less. Any amount of activity is better than none, and finding enjoyable ways to incorporate movement into daily life can lead to significant improvements in overall well-being. By prioritizing physical activity, individuals can enhance their health and quality of life for years to come.
