Special cards aim to connect neighbors

Neighbors are often the first people we turn to during disasters and emergencies because of how quickly we can reach each other. In fact, 46% of people surveyed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency expect to rely heavily on their neighbors for help within the first 72 hours after an emergency.

Trout season starts Feb. 24

The 2024 trout season begins Saturday, Feb. 24, after the stocking of 1,600 pounds of trout in Kill Creek Park and 3,800 pounds of trout in Shawnee Mission Park.

BOCC, JCW efforts save millions in Nelson project

Since 2018, Johnson County Wastewater and its partners have been studying, planning, strategizing and reimagining the rebuild of the Nelson Wastewater Treatment Plant. It will be the largest capital project in the county’s history — updating our oldest wastewater treatment facility to be the newest.

COA meetings

The Johnson County Commission on Aging will meet at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, and Feb. 14 in the Sunset Drive Office Building, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Olathe. 

Virtual classes are available on many topics

The Johnson County Department of Aging and Human Services is committed to supporting older adults by hosting virtual classes. While some classes are exclusively for Area Agency on Aging clients, others are open to the public.

COA approves 2024 Legislative Platform

The Johnson County Commission on Aging has unanimously approved its 2024 Legislative Platform for advocacy during the Kansas Legislature convening on Jan. 8.
