Spring will be here soon! With warmer weather just around the corner, Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Program has planned some great opportunities to get out and have some fun!

At our first event, Gamin' with the Grandkids, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, at the Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty St., Overland Park, participants are invited to celebrate spring break with their grandkids. Spend the afternoon shouting bingo, dancing to your favorite tunes, playing interactive games and striking a pose at the fun photo booth. It’s sure to bring many smiles and giggles to your afternoon. The 90-minute program is $7 for Johnson County residents and $8 for nonresidents.

Pull out your fancy hat and gloves to celebrate with us at the Spring Tea Party, at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave, Prairie Village. Enjoy a tasting of traditional tea snacks and a sampling of teas.

As you sip and nibble on the provided treats, engage with others during our fun social games to meet new friends and learn more about those you already know. While this event will be full of frivolity , hats and gloves are not required. Teacups are included. The 90-minute program is $15 for Johnson County residents and $16 for nonresidents.

Who says kids get to have all the fun when it comes to egg hunts this time of year? Don’ t miss the 50 Plus ONLY Egg Hunt, at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse where a furry friend might even hop by! Coffee and refreshments will also be served. The 90-minute program is $11 for Johnson County residents and $12 for nonresidents.

In April, we bring you Dog’s Day Out, a FREE outdoor event for your favorite four-legged friend, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at the Meadowbrook Park (Shelter 1) Clubhouse. This fun filled afternoon will provide activity stations throughout the park. Visit local pet related vendors, test out a treat making station, splash around with some water play, take part in a dog treat scavenger hunt and more. Get the chance to meet Gus, Johnson County Sheriff.

Office’s K9, and his handler, Jack Weiss, to learn about Gus’s training and his role in the community. In case of inclement weather, the event will be rescheduled to Saturday, May 6.
