Healthy Yards Expo set April 13 in Shawnee
The free 12th Healthy Yards Expo will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 13, at the Shawnee Civic Centre, 13817 Johnson Drive in Shawnee.
The expo highlights many simple and easy environmentally friendly practices to achieve a nice landscape.
Activities include free native tree seedlings to the first 100 visitors. The city of Overland Park is providing the seedlings from the Kansas Forest Service.
Participants can register to win door prizes, including rain barrels, compost bins and native plants.
City Roots Nursery will offer a native plant sale with a wide selection of native plants for spring garden projects.
Experts will provide information on rain gardens, landscaping for songbirds and many more topics by many partners, including Bridging the Gap, Botanical Belonging, Native Lands Restoration Collaborative and Johnson County Extension Master Gardeners and Master Naturalists.
The expo will feature more than 40 vendors promoting healthy yards products and actions with information about composting, landscaping, soil testing, home radon testing, clean water stewardship, managing pet waste, supporting pollinators and much more!
The StoneLion Puppet Theatre will present performances at 10:30 a.m. and noon with emphasis on environmental sustainability.
