Upcoming 2022 Osher classes include Beatles & Woodstock
Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Department is partnering with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Kansas for new activities.
Upcoming classes include:
• “Would You Like to Meet the Beatles You Thought You Knew?” – The Beatles were more than just another rock band. In addition to reviewing their origin story and “Beatlemania,” participants will learn how these four became so fabulous. They will be asked to engage
in trivia quizzes and discussions of their legacy. Meets at Roeland Park Community Center, 4850 Rosewood, starting at 1 p.m. Jan. 25.
• Woodstock at 50” – Rock music during 1967-69 started with the Summer of Love and ended tragically just two years later. Sessions will explore cultural and political events of the time from the Monterey International Pop Music Festival, through the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, and ending at the Altamont Speedway Festival. Meets at Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse, 9101 Nall Ave., Prairie Village, starting at 2 p.m. Jan. 27.
• “From Gilded Age to Progressive Era” – Explore a time of unprecedented American industrial expansion to a time of more modest reforms. Sessions examine conflicting viewpoints as well as film clips from historical documentaries. Meets at New Century Fieldhouse, 551 New Century Parkway, near Gardner, starting at 2 p.m. Feb. 14.
