The Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus program is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated 2024 Live Well Age Well Expo, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park.
The popular event again features another fantastic day dedicated to promoting health, independence and connection for local aging adults. As always, registration is not required. The event is free to all attendees.
The vendor fair will showcase more than 50 private businesses, health organizations, community partners and service providers, all offering resources and support tailored to meet aging needs or those of aging loved ones.
Booths from various Johnson County agencies, including the Election Office, Health and Environment, County Manager’s Office, Aging and Human Services, K-State Extension Office and the Library will share information on the wide range of available public services and programs by county government.
The expo will offer free health examinations, including blood pressure checks, pain assessments and joint screenings.
This year’s lineup of educational sessions promises to be both informative and engaging. This includes “Aging is an Asset” by Dr. Lee Norman of Optum Health. Back by popular demand, Michelle Lane has returned for a “Mastering the Art of Emotional Resilience” presentation.
But wait, there’s more! This year ’s event will also serve as a Drug Take Back location for attendees to safely dispose of unused or expired medicines. Before disposing of prescription medicines, participants are reminded to remove all personal information on pill bottle labels and medicine packaging.
Mini sessions, featuring some popular and fun 50 Plus Department programs, include a painting demo, exercise classes and an improv class. Bingo with prizes will be played throughout the day.
As a special treat, all attendees will receive free entry to the Johnson County Museum within the Arts & Heritage Center. Explore the rich history and culture of Johnson County while enjoying a featured exhibit on 1960s fashion called “Free to Be … A 1960s Fashion Revolution!”
Please note that arrangements for additional parking have been made, with overflow parking and shuttle service running continuously from the New Theatre & Restaurant, 9229 Foster St., Overland Park.
