Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas The Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas program in Johnson County provides free, confidential and unbiased counseling to Medicare beneficiaries in our community.
The program is designed to provide personalized guidance to help individuals make informed decisions to meet their healthcare needs.
SHICK volunteer counselors are vetted by the state and county to ensure the safety of clients and their private health information. Comprehensive training from national and state resources must be completed before seeing clients or giving presentations.
As the program grows, you will see staff providing presentations and participating in community events. SHICK’s upcoming schedule and open enrollment information follows:
Educational events:
- 5:30 p.m. July 22: Medicare Basics Class, Carmack Community Room, Central Resource Library
- 10 a.m. Aug. 20: New to Medicare Class, New Century Fieldhouse
- 6 p.m. Sept. 5: New to Medicare Class, Olathe Public Library
- 6 p.m. Oct. 9: New to Medicare Class, Sunset Drive Office Building
Community events:
- 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 29: Live Well Age Well Expo 2024 at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, Overland Park
Medicare Open Enrollment/annual election period:
Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, 2024
Changes effective January 2025
- Join, drop, or switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan.
- Switch from an original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage Plan or from a Medicare Advantage Plan to an original Medicare.
- Join, drop or switch to another Medicare drug plan if you’re in original Medicare.
