Summer sizzles with travel options

As the weather heats up, Johnson County Park and Recreation District’s 50 Plus Department is set to offer sizzling trips and travel-themed programs, including:

Day travel

On Fort for a Day. Travel to Fort Leavenworth and learn about the fort with a guided step-on tour. See the college, the National Cemetery, Buffalo Soldier Monument, Lewis and Clark Museum and the Frontier Army Museum.

Special interest

JFK Presidential Library (virtual). Executive Director Rachel Flor of the John F. Kennedy Library will discuss programs that promote debate and discussion of issues at the heart of contemporary democracy as well as current exhibits.

Day travel

Glass and Gardens. Visit Kechi, Kan., to discover the world of blown glass. Watch a demonstration and choose to purchase a souvenir of blowing or fusing glass. Afterwards, visit Wichita’s botanical garden. Hot weather alter - native for botanica visit is the Museum of World Treasures.

Lunch & Learn

Kansas City’s Public Art. Laura Miller from Kansas City Tour Guide will share pictures, stories and the history around some of Kansas City’s favorite fountains, sculptures and murals. Enjoy a catered lunch before the presentation.
