Historic site features 1904 holiday

Children wait to visit with Santa in a one room schoolhouse

The Lanesfield Historic Site, 18745 S. Dillie Road, Edgerton, will deck its halls during the holiday season so Johnson County residents of all ages may experience a traditional, old-fashioned Christmas circa 1904 at its Christmas Concert celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14.

The free program includes letter-writing to Santa with participants practicing their penmanship using the old-fashioned pen and inkwell.

The Edgerton Rainbow Connection Children’s Choir will perform at 1:30 p.m., followed by a visit from Santa from 1:45 to 3:30 p.m. Crafts and free refreshments will be available in the visitor center, and the gift shop will be open for purchasing stocking stuffers.

The Lanesfield School, a National Historic Site since 1988, features a one room limestone schoolhouse, the last remaining structure in the bygone town of Lanesfield.

The historic site is operated by the Johnson County Museum as a department of the Johnson County Park and Recreation District.
