The New Horizons Band, a vibrant ensemble of older adults, is gearing up for their much-anticipated annual holiday concert.
Founded to provide a musical outlet for older adults, the band brings together individuals who share a passion for music and community. The upcoming concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, at the Johnson County Arts & Heritage Center, 8788 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, features an evening filled with festive cheer.
Advanced registration is not required to attend the free event.
Under the direction of Dr. Joe Parisi, the band will perform a mixture of traditional holiday favorites and upbeat seasonal tunes. The repertoire includes pieces like “March of the Toys,” “Hanukkah Holiday” and “My Favorite Things” from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical “The Sound of Music.”
The band, working in conjunction with University of Missouri – Kansas City Conservatory, offers more than just music, it fosters social connections and promotes well-being among its members. Rehearsals and performances provide a sense of purpose and joy, making it a beloved activity for its participants.
