Lunches to feast on knowledge

Historic Hannibal Bridge in Kansas City

Johnson County Park and Recreation 50 Plus Program’s upcoming Lunch & Learns offer the opportunity to satisfy appetites with both food and knowledge.

The first Lunch & Learn is a two-part series on “Political Campaign Memorabilia” in American presidential history.

Don Dagenais, a collector and presenter, showcases his extensive collection to explore how these artifacts reflect the country’s evolving political landscape. The nonpartisan presentation provides unique insights into pivotal moments in American politics.

A catered lunch will be served for both days of the two-part presentation.

  • Date: Thursday, Sept. 5 and Wednesday, Sept. 25 (two parts)
  • Time: Noon-2:30 p.m.
  • Location: Meadowbrook Park Clubhouse

On Oct. 11, the Lunch & Learn program will offer an opportunity to “Meet Octave Chanute.”

It was the first railroad bridge spanning the Missouri River. Chanute’s legacy extends beyond engineering; he mentored the Wright brothers in glider technology.

A catered lunch will be served.

  • Location: Matt Ross Community Center
  • Cost: $34/$37 nonresidents
